Valentines day can bring up a host of negative self talk… Why haven’t I met that special one? Nobody wants me. Maybe I’m not good enough to be in a relationship. It’s just not meant to be… and the list goes on.
But as Jennifer Lopez says “You’ve got to love yourself first. You’ve got to be okay on your own before you can be okay with somebody else.”
So with that in mind how can you love yourself? What does that even mean? To love yourself is to be comfortable in your own skin, accept who you truly are, be happy that the plus and minus points add up to you, a whole, individual, unique person.
3 simple steps to loving yourself –
- Take time for yourself. Just 30 minutes and decide what you want to do. Read, listen to music, just sit and relax, do nothing, nourish your body with healthy food, the choice is yours. Repeat often.
- Write down ‘I love myself’ on a note and stick it to your bedroom or bathroom mirror. Look in the mirror every morning and repeat it whilst looking into your eyes 3 times with expression and feeling.
- Write a kind letter of love to yourself. Write down all the things you love about yourself and want to love about yourself. Write down the things that you are grateful to yourself for. Read the letter to yourself and say “thank you” to yourself.
